چکیده
Abstract Introduction Epilepsy is frequently encountered in the pediatric population and some patients are treated by stimulation of vagus nerve to reduce their seizure frequency. Vagus (VNS) may induce central sleep apnea. Adaptive servo ventilation a known treatment option for apnea certain adult with heart failure Cheyne-Stokes respiration but infrequently utilized population. Report case(s) A 17-year-old male history intractable generalized epilepsy, VNS placement, obstructive (OSA) (CSA) presented our tertiary care center management his disordered breathing. Initial breathing included CPAP OSA. After patient began have high residual apnea-hypopnea index on data card download CPAP. Polysomnography (PSG) was performed CSA events were noted that correlated firing. BiPAP titrated unsuccessful treating CSA. adjustment did not impact Repeat titration adaptive successfully OSA In follow up, tolerating ASV improvement nocturnal daytime functioning. Conclusion Central can be induced stimulation. This unique case documents successful an adolescent patient. Support (if any)

Chiari malformation and central sleep apnea syndrome: efficacy of treatment with adaptive servo-ventilation*
The Chiari malformation type I (CM-I) has been associated with sleep-disordered breathing, especially central sleep apnea syndrome. We report the case of a 44-year-old female with CM-I who was referred to our sleep laboratory for suspected sleep apnea. The patient had undergone decompressive surgery 3 years prior. An arterial blood gas analysis showed hypercapnia. Polysomnography showed a respi...
متن کاملAdaptive Servo-Ventilation for Central Sleep Apnea in Systolic Heart Failure.
BACKGROUND Central sleep apnea is associated with poor prognosis and death in patients with heart failure. Adaptive servo-ventilation is a therapy that uses a noninvasive ventilator to treat central sleep apnea by delivering servo-controlled inspiratory pressure support on top of expiratory positive airway pressure. We investigated the effects of adaptive servo-ventilation in patients who had h...

متن کاملAdaptive servo-ventilation and deadspace: effects on central sleep apnoea.
Central Sleep Apnoea (CSA) occurs commonly in heart failure. Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) and deadspace (DS) have been shown in research settings to reverse CSA. The likely mechanism for this is the increase of PaCO(2) above the apnoeic threshold. However the role of increasing FiCO(2) on arousability remains unclear. To compare the effects of ASV and DS on sleep and breathing, in particula...

Adaptive servo-ventilation (ASV) is a form of non-invasive positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy that differs from other PAP devices. It includes features to overcome both obstructive and central sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) events.
